Welcome

Traditional Okinawan Karate in Cortlandt Manor, NY

Shorei-Kan USA teaches authentic Okinawan Budo Kaisai-do, the evolution of Goju-Ryu karate, at our headquarters on Oregon Road in Cortlandt Manor. We offer junior, adult, and Okinawan Kobudo weaponry classes, and seniors are welcome in all adult classes. Whether you are new to martial arts or returning after years away, our system starts you at your own pace and builds from there.

Our Philosophy

Shorei-Kan karate is different than other types of karate. It is a budo, which literally means the way to stop fighting in Japanese. Budo is an art, a way of life, to train one’s mind and body and bring one to self-understanding and eventually enlightenment through practicing fighting techniques.

Shorei-Kan karate is for the people who wish to learn self-defense techniques and to improve physical and mental conditions. As Master Tamano wished to distinguish it from ordinary karate, he changed the name Shorei-Kan karate to Shorei-Kan Okinawa Budo Kaisai-do.
